REGULATORS GO TO THE BEACH

Here it is – Regulators favorite part of the summer is here.  You asked for it, and as the calendar has rolled around once more, it’s time.  Time to get out those Hawaiian shirts, shorts and other beach attire.  That’s right:  for the August match you may wear sports or beach attire.  Appropriate footwear (no flip flops or backless shoes, but sport shoes would be fine) and a shady hat are recommended, but the rest is up to you.  Just be sure to pack the sun screen.

Our own Burt Blade made it safely to North Carolina.  His work, not surprisingly, is keeping him very busy, but he does have a roof over his head and is trying to remember to eat.  We miss him very much, and send him our best in his new endeavor.  Maybe his boss will send him back down here on a project that just happens to coincide with a shoot…it could happen!  Happy trails, Burt Blade!

Some of you may be missing Utah at the matches and the cowboy class.  He is recovering from a shoulder problem under the watchful eye of Miss Ruth and will be back with us soon.  Probably not soon enough for him, but we all want him at 100%.  Get well soon!

Remember: it’s still hot.  It’s going to be hot for awhile.  What are the rules??

BE SAFE   BE SMART IN THE HEAT    STAY HYDRATED

EVERYONE WORKS, EVERYONE PLAYS LOOK OUT FOR EACH OTHER

Over the summer, we will try to make your shooting experience as comfortable as possible. We will be cutting the length of the match down to five stages.  Expect them to be fast with limited resets and not as much movement.  You can still expect them to be FUN!

BOOK DRIVE

Our own La Gata Loca says “HI” from somewhere in the Middle East.  She is doing well, and misses all her cowboy pards very much.  She would love to hear from you. You can e-mail her at laura@geekcentralinc.com.

Thanks to everyone who brought in donations of books for the library project.  Boxes have gone out and should arrive at their destination in about three weeks (book class really does go by camel back, it seems).  Keep ‘em coming and we’ll keep ‘em going out!

COWBOY CLASS & R/O CLASS

There will be a Level II R/O class at the Fort White range on Saturday, August 19, 2006.  The class will begin at 1:00pm and last until Turkey Creek Red and Kid Hawkins are done with you.  That’s right: it’s the return of the “Roger and Red Show”! If you have been looking for an opportunity to take a Level II class, or just want a refresher, this is the time to do it. Call Red at the number below if you have questions or need directions.  Also,  there is a tentative plan for a Level I class in September.  Watch this news letter for more info!

The monthly cowboy class is the first Saturday of the month.  This is a great opportunity to introduce someone to the sport, or to get a “refresher”.  If you are interested, or know someone who would like to try out cowboy action shooting, please call Turkey Creek Red at (321)728-7928 or Utah at (321)951-1223.

FROM THE PONY EXPRESS

Safety is always first and foremost.  Please remember Port Malabar Rifle and Pistol Club is a private range, and we have a lot of people shooting in areas you can’t always see.  Please do not handle your guns unnecessarily at your vehicle when transferring them to gun carts.  Be mindful of your muzzle direction.  Resist the urge to show off that new fancy rig until you are inside the action area in a designated safe area.  Observe the 10mph speed limit.  Please park in the open lot across from the registration area and NOT along the bullseye line.  Additional parking is available in the pistol practice area just south of Bay 1.  Parking inside the action area is limited to handicapped vehicles without trailers and Indian River Regulator Cowboy Council members.  Your support and consideration in these areas will make us better neighbors with out other shooting disciplines.

If you are a member, of PMRPC please refer to your monthly news letter regarding the new rules for use of the action area, or see Turkey Creek Red

Remember, at the Port Malabar Rifle and Pistol Club, all juniors shoot free of charge.  This is an excellent way to get more young people involved in our wonderful sport.  If you know someone who might be interested in cowboy action shooting, please encourage them to attend the cowboy class and come join the fun!

Got comments? Suggestions? Criticisms? Got an idea for a stage?  WE WANT YOUR INPUT!  This is YOUR shoot and we feel this truly is an interactive sport!  You can write us, call us at (321) 728-7928 or e-mail us at Ccoll28198@aol.com  – even if you want to remain a “Ghost Writer”.  We members of the press know how to protect our sources.  Get involved!
