HAPPY HOLIDAYS

Been awhile since our last Dispatch, but a lot sure has happened.  Some inclement weather put a damper on us all in September, but things all over are getting back to what passes for normal. The Indian River Regulators were able to make their annual trek to the Haunted Mesa in October, and gobbled their way through Thanksgiving in November. We are looking forward to sharing our holidays with you on December 26th (that’s a Sunday, folks, not our regular Saturday) and wish you and yours the very best in 2005.  It is brought home to us at this time of year, and this year especially, the true meaning of the “cowboy way”, the value of friendship, the closeness of family, and how lucky we are just to have each other and share this marvelous sport.  It is a rare and wonderful thing that binds us together, and we are glad to greet the new year as a cowboy community. Happy Trails!

The Indian River Regulators would like to say howdy and welcome to the new shooters.  Welcome to our pistol packin’ friends from across the state-you folks came a far piece to try your hand at this gunfight-hope y’all come back soon!  It was nice to see all the spectators-hope we have some future cowboys out there!

Tip of the Stetson goes to the posse marshals who stepped up and kept the peace.  We had a lot of hands out there helping set up and tear down-your efforts are always greatly appreciated (even if the pay isn’t too good). Muchas gracias to Utah who designed our wonderful Turkey Trot (November 2004) and sacrificed a pint of blood and more than a little flesh to bring us the scourge of the Malabar Swamp MONGO!!!  For those of you who missed it, Mongo will return in the spring.

SAY GOODNIGHT, JOHN

Our own Maverick Milt has hung out the permanent “Gone Shooting” sign at John’s Precision Bullets, and is headed for that cabin in the mountains he has been talking about for so long.  John’s Precision Bullets has been a long time supporter of the shooting community all over central Florida , and a fixture at local clubs. Once he gets done with that “Honey, do…” list Maverick’s Rose has lined up for him, we hope he will join us on the firing line, instead of the sideline, more often.  The Indian River Regulators wish them both good luck in Georgia , and extend a permanent reservation at the Collins BBB&B whenever they are in our neck of the woods.

COWBOY CLASS & R/O CLASS

The monthly cowboy class will be the first Saturday of January and February 2005.  If you have special needs please contact Utah at (321)951-1223 or Burt Blade at (321)242-8163.

There will be a Level II R/O class in Orlando on Saturday, December 11, 2004 beginning at 9:00 am .  The cost of the class is $25.00.  For those of you who are interested in taking the class for the first time, or those of you who are R/O’ing stages at The Last Stand and need a refresher, please call Turkey Creek Red at (321) 728-7928.

FROM THE PONY EXPRESS

Safety is always first and foremost.  Please remember Port Malabar Rifle and Pistol Club is a private range, and we have a lot of people shooting in areas you can’t always see.  Please do not handle your guns unnecessarily at your vehicle when transferring them to gun carts.  Be mindful of your muzzle direction.  Resist the urge to show off that new fancy rig until you are inside the action area in a designated safe area.  Observe the 10mph speed limit.  Please park in the open lot across from the registration area and NOT along the bullseye line.  Additional parking is available in the pistol practice area just south of Bay 1.  Parking inside the action area is limited to handicapped vehicles without trailers and Indian River Regulator Cowboy Council members.  Your support and consideration in these areas will make us better neighbors with out other shooting disciplines.

Remember, at the Port Malabar Rifle and Pistol Club, all juniors shoot free of charge.  This is an excellent way to get more young people involved in our wonderful sport.  If you know someone who might be interested in cowboy action shooting, please encourage them to attend the cowboy class and come join the fun!

Need cowboy stuff?  Byrds Western Wear has the solution to your problem!  Holiday hours means they are open on Sunday, too, for those last minute shoppers.  By supporting them and other cowboy vendors, you support cowboy action shooting locally.  Plus, they are really nice folks!

Roland Rawhide has some great stocking stuffers to put under your cactus! Check out his beautiful metalwork, woodwork, and other nifty cowboy goodies.

Got comments? Suggestions? Criticisms? Got an idea for a stage?  WE WANT YOUR INPUT!  This is YOUR shoot and we feel this truly is an interactive sport!  You can write us, call us at (321) 242-8163 or e-mail us at burtblade@earthlink.net – even if you want to remain a “Ghost Writer”.  We members of the press know how to protect our sources.  Get involved!
