THE SINGING COWBOYS

Hope everybody had fun playing croquet, and don’t ever let anyone tell you cowboy shooting requires more than a good eye and careful aim.  If you are going to navigate the “Maze-N-Hay” you need a real steady hand or your egg is a goner.  If you weren’t there, you missed it!!  By the way – those that turned out in shorts? You got GREAT legs!

This month we’ll have five more exciting stages, but remember: fall may be just around the corner (come on, cool weather!!) but September is traditionally the hottest month on the ol’ Malabar range.  You all know what to do!

BE SAFE   BE SMART IN THE HEAT    STAY HYDRATED

EVERYONE WORKS, EVERYONE PLAYS LOOK OUT FOR EACH OTHER

Just in time for the Haunted Mesa, we will be returning to six stages in October, along with more movement and more reactive targets.  Should be spook-tacular!

COWBOY UP!

As some of you may know, Delta Glenn’s brother, T.C.Slim, met with a truly unfortunate accident and is paralyzed.  YOU have the opportunity to show your respect for a member of our cowboy family when he needs it most.  Major Mishap is chairing a raffle with proceeds going to T.C. Slim and his family.  Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20.  Of course, any donation would be gladly accepted.  If you are a local cowboy, Greta Dee has tickets as well.  They will be on sale through September.  There is a jenkies prize, but the BEST PRIZE is helping out a fellow cowboy!  Now, cowboy up!!

BOOK DRIVE

Many thanks to Manzanita, Utah, Brucester Diamond, and Greta Dee for their generous contributions to the book drive.  The last shipment out weighed in at 66 pounds of books.  That should keep La Gata Loca and her fellow swabbies up for a few nights at least.

COWBOY CLASS & R/O CLASS

There will be a Level I R/O class at the Malabar range on Saturday, October 21 at 9:00am given by Turkey Creed Red.  This is a recommended class for EVERY cowboy shooter, with a SASS developed curriculum.  Emphasis is on safety, rules, safety, range functions and responsibilities, and did we mention, safety?  It is the best way to understand the foundation and workings of the sport we all love.  Cost is $10, bring your lunch, and dress comfortably since we will probably be outside.  There is no live fire, so no guns or ammo is necessary.  If you interested, please contact Turkey Creek Red at the number below.  Please pre-register, so we can be sure to have adequate teaching materials for everyone!

The monthly cowboy class is the first Saturday of the month.  This is a great opportunity to introduce someone to the sport, or to get a “refresher”.  If you are interested, or know someone who would like to try out cowboy action shooting, please call Turkey Creek Red at (321)728-7928 or Utah at (321)951-1223.

FROM THE PONY EXPRESS

Safety is always first and foremost.  Please remember Port Malabar Rifle and Pistol Club is a private range, and we have a lot of people shooting in areas you can’t always see.  Please do not handle your guns unnecessarily at your vehicle when transferring them to gun carts.  Be mindful of your muzzle direction.  Resist the urge to show off that new fancy rig until you are inside the action area in a designated safe area.  Observe the 10mph speed limit.  Please park in the open lot across from the registration area and NOT along the bullseye line.  Additional parking is available in the pistol practice area just south of Bay 1.  Parking inside the action area is limited to handicapped vehicles without trailers and Indian River Regulator Cowboy Council members.  Your support and consideration in these areas will make us better neighbors with out other shooting disciplines.

If you are a member, of PMRPC please refer to your monthly news letter regarding the new rules for use of the action area, or see Turkey Creek Red

Remember, at the Port Malabar Rifle and Pistol Club, all juniors shoot free of charge.  This is an excellent way to get more young people involved in our wonderful sport.  If you know someone who might be interested in cowboy action shooting, please encourage them to attend the cowboy class and come join the fun!

Got comments? Suggestions? Criticisms? Got an idea for a stage?  WE WANT YOUR INPUT!  This is YOUR shoot and we feel this truly is an interactive sport!  You can write us, call us at (321) 728-7928 or e-mail us at Ccoll28198@aol.com  – even if you want to remain a “Ghost Writer”.  We members of the press know how to protect our sources.  Get involved!
